Meeting Notice

NOTICE: The People & Environment Recovery Board will hold a special hybrid meeting on Monday, February 9, 2026 at 5:30 p.m. in the First Floor Conference Room of City Hall (70 Court Plaza) for the purposes of 1) hearing an update on the Urban Forest Master Plan, 2) hearing an update on the Resilience Hub Mapping project and discussing project development and engagement, and 3) rescheduling the April 6, 2026, board meeting. 

General Information

The People and Environment Recovery Board will serve these functions:

  • Provides input to City Council on policy recommendations that strengthen the city’s ability to prepare for and respond to climate-related disasters.
  • Provides input to City Council on policy recommendations that support environmental sustainability and recognize the impact and role of Asheville’s natural resources in recovery.
  • Supports City Council by consulting existing resources and tools to include known climate vulnerability considerations into policy and programming recommendations
  • Provides input to City Council on ways to support neighborhood-level resilience and preparedness efforts that build community capacity to withstand future challenges.
  • Supports City Council by providing input on ways to support residents recovering from disaster impacts while strengthening long-term community resilience.
  • Supports City Council by helping residents feel informed, engaged, and connected to recovery resources through each member’s respective networks.

Membership

The People & Environment Recovery Board shall be constituted as follows:

  • Shall have no more than 11 members
  • Up to seven members shall be appointed from existing chairs, vice chairs, or their designees of current boards and commissions (listed below)
  • Four to five remaining Members shall be appointed by the City Council at large

Advisory Board Membership Appointments: African-American Heritage Commission, Human Relations Commission, Multimodal Transportation Commission, Neighborhood Advisory Committee, Sustainability Advisory Committee, Urban Forestry Commission

All members’ terms shall end on June 30, 2027, unless modified by City Council. All members shall serve at the pleasure of Council, and may be removed at any time with or without cause.

Regular Meeting Schedule

This meeting takes place on the first Monday of December, April and August, from 10:30 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.; and the first Monday of February, June, and October from 5:30 p.m. – 7:00 p.m.   Meetings will be held in the First-Floor Conference Room of City Hall in a hybrid format.

  • In-Person Comments: Comments will be limited to 3 minutes for individuals and 10 minutes for a group’s primary spokesperson (requires three individuals to cede their time to a fourth person – all four people must be present at the meeting).
  • Note: Voicemail and written comments will be provided to committee members prior to the meeting. Only live comments will be heard during the meeting.
