Helene Economy Recovery Board

General Information

The Economy Recovery Board:

  • Provides input to City Council on policy recommendations that;
    • Promote post-disaster economic recovery such as rebuilding and revitalizing the local economy.
    • Expand local economic resilience and diversification.
    • Emphasize land management best practices and the strategic use of both city-owned and newly acquired land to promote placemaking, community vitality, and sustainable long-term growth.
    • Support workforce development programs that build workforce capacity and enhance the local economy by creating a sustainable economic base.
  • Supports City Council by;
    • Providing input on ways to expand the city’s contractor pool to improve capacity for recovery and future resilience projects.
    • Providing input on ways to strengthen outreach to businesses and support for small and underrepresented businesses.
    • Helping businesses navigate post-disaster recovery challenges, communicating needed resources and funding opportunities for rebuilding through each member’s respective networks.

Membership

 The Economy Recovery Board shall be constituted as follows:

  • Shall have no more than 11 members
  • Up to seven members shall be appointed from existing chairs, vice chairs, or their designees of current boards and commissions (listed below)
  • Four to five remaining members shall be appointed by the City Council at large

Advisory Board Membership Appointments: Affordable Housing Advisory Committee, African American Heritage Commission, Asheville Downtown Commission, Asheville-Buncombe Riverfront Commission, Community Entertainment Facilities Commission, Public Art & Cultural Commission, Noise Advisory Board

All members’ terms shall end on June 30, 2027, unless modified by City Council. All members shall serve at the pleasure of Council, and may be removed at any time with or without cause.

Regular Meeting Schedule

The Economy Helene Recovery Board will meet from 9:00 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. on the third Thursday of every other month, beginning in November, in the first-floor conference room of City Hall (70 Court Plaza). Meetings will be held in a hybrid format.

Public Comment:

  • Call-In Public Comments: Comments will be limited to 3 minutes. Comments can be made in advance or during the meeting by calling (855) 925-2801 and entering the meeting code: 2131.
  • Written Public Comments: Pre-submitted written public comments may be emailed to economyboard@publicinput.com (closes at 5:00 p.m. the day before the meeting).
  • In-Person Comments: Comments will be limited to 3 minutes for individuals and 10 minutes for a group’s primary spokesperson (requires three individuals to cede their time to a fourth person – all four people must be present at the meeting).
