Meetings of the Neighborhood Advisory Committee will remain as-needed until June 30, 2027, unless noticed otherwise. This page will be updated as new information becomes available. Special meetings may occur if a board needs to meet regarding Helene-related or pressing matters.
Members of boards that are meeting on an as-needed basis have the following pathways to propose new tasks that have not been directed by City Council:
Ask their board’s representative on the Helene Recovery Boards to present the idea to their respective Recovery Board.
Communicate the idea to a Council Committee.
Communicate the idea to City Council.
Ask their board chair to present the idea to the department director who provides support to their board (e.g., Urban Forestry Master Plan, Arts & Culture Plan, Home Repair, Resilience Hubs, etc.)
The Committee was established to advise the City Council on neighborhoods within the City of Asheville’s zoning and planning jurisdiction. The Committee shall have the following powers and duties:
Neighborhood Advisory Committee Documents (meeting materials, annual reports, annual work plans, governing documents, enabling statutes, resolutions, ordinances, etc.)
The Committee consists of nine members, all appointed by City Council, with representation from specific community sectors. At least one resident from each major geographic area of the city, as defined by the U.S. Postal zip codes assigned to the city: 28801 (Central); 28803 or 28704 (South); 28804 (North); 28805 (East); and 28806 or 28728 (West). The remaining four seats shall be at-large appointments. Members shall be residents of the City or the City’s extra-territorial zoning jurisdiction and shall reflect the socio-economic diversity of Asheville. The term of office is three years. Notwithstanding the foregoing, all members appointed by the Asheville City Council shall serve at the pleasure of Council, and may be removed at any time with or without cause.
Advisory Boards will meet on-demand through June 30, 2027, as tasks are assigned by Council, Council Committee, or department directors.
Additionally, advisory board members may ask their board’s representative on the Helene Recovery Boards to present ideas to their respective Recovery Boards. Ideas may also be communicated to Council Committees, City Council, or the department director of the department that provides support to the advisory board.
