Residential Permits

Overview

The resources and documents below will assist you in obtaining the needed permits for your residential projects. For a complete overview of the Residential Permit requirements, see the Guide to Building Permits for Single-Family Homes.

The City of Asheville's Development Services Department (DSD) helps citizens and developers submit the necessary applications to receive these residential permits. Click here for commercial permit applications.

DSD's Permit Application Center (PAC) is located at 161 South Charlotte Street and open to the public on Monday to Friday, 8:30 am - 5:00 pm (closed on public holidays). Customers can also contact PAC@ashevillenc.gov or 828-259-5846 with questions about residential permits.

Note that permit applications and application packages should be complete before submitting to the Development Services Department (DSD). Incompleteness will add time to the review and approval process.

Before beginning an application, please check to confirm that your property is located in the City of Asheville’s permitting jurisdiction.
