  • How do I check on warrants?
    To check on warrants that were taken out against you or warrants that you have taken out on another person, you must contact the Buncombe County Magistrate’s Office. The Buncombe County Magistrate’s Office is located at 20 Davidson Dr, Asheville NC 28801
  • Where do I get fingerprinted for employment or criminal history checks?
    If you need to get your fingerprints taken, you will need to contact the Buncombe County Bureau of Identification. Please use the Buncombe County Bureau of Identification website (under ID Division) to find times of operation, identifications needed for services, costs, and limitations on services.
  • How do I apply for a gun permit?
    Gun permits are handled by the Buncombe County Sheriff’s Office. For additional information, you may visit their website or call 828-250-6670.

  • Do you provide services for victims of crime?
    Yes, the department has a dedicated victim services unit that can assist with victim compensation, connection with local services, and many other services.
  • Are free gun locks available?
    Yes! APD will provide a free gunlock upon request at the front desk of the Police Department downtown. The front desk is open from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday – Friday.
