Specialized Operations Division Last updated or reviewed on July 1, 2026 The Specialized Operations Division supports a department-wide effort to strengthen community policing across Asheville. The division comprises three dedicated units: the Traffic Safety Unit, School Resource Officers, and the Housing Authority Policing Team, and additionally oversees all department special events and community programs. The division brings together dedicated teams that deliver focused public safety services, localized outreach, and targeted traffic enforcement across Asheville. Division Units & Services Traffic Safety Unit The unit focuses on preventing crashes before they happen. That means addressing dangerous driving behaviors like speeding and impaired driving, investigating serious collisions, and using data to put officers where they’re needed most. Their goal is simple: fewer crashes, fewer injuries, and safer streets for everyone who uses them: drivers, cyclists, and pedestrians. Traffic Enforcement Requests Community members are encouraged to report localized traffic safety concerns. If you notice a persistent traffic problem in your neighborhood, you can help the Asheville Police Department address it by submitting a formal request. Complete the Traffic Enforcement Request Form to submit a report online.
