Community Resource Officers Last updated or reviewed on July 1, 2026 Community policing is a department-wide philosophy integrated into the daily work of officers across the city, rather than the sole responsibility of a single division. By embedding Community Resource Officers (CROs) directly into Patrol Districts, APD strengthens mentorship for newer officers, empowers field problem-solving, and encourages local ownership. This decentralized approach is designed to enhance, not reduce, our commitment to the neighborhoods we serve. Each neighborhood has a dedicated point of contact through its assigned CRO. To identify which district CRO serves your area, see the ” Meet Your Community Resource Officer ” section. Community Engagement Requests Would you like the Asheville Police Department to participate in your upcoming neighborhood meeting, school function, or community event? You can submit a formal request for officer attendance, static vehicle displays, or safety presentations. How to Submit a Request To request APD participation at your event, please fill out our online Community Engagement Request Form Be sure to include the following details in your submission: Event Details: The name, type, date, time, and specific location of the event. Officer Role: A description of what you would like the officers to do (such as give a safety talk, hand out materials, or simply make a community appearance). Point of Contact: Your full name, phone number, and email address. Important Timeline: Please send your request at least two weeks in advance so our division has enough time to plan and schedule personnel. Our team will review your request and contact you to discuss the details. If you have further questions or need help with your request, please contact us at APDCommunityResource@ashevillenc.gov.
