MSD French Broad River Pump Station Project continues with blasting for river crossing beginning Sept. 17
As part of the Metropolitan Sewerage District (MSD) French Broad River Pump Station Project, blasting for the Phase 1 French Broad River Park river crossing is scheduled to begin Wednesday, Sept. 17 and continue through the week, with possible activity into the following week. Traffic in and around the blasting area will be stopped during each blast.
Close the GAP
In October 2022, City Council adopted the GAP Plan which was produced through the Close the GAP Planning Process. This plan provides updates to the City’s Greenway Master Plan (G), ADA Transition Plan (A)*, and Pedestrian Master Plan (P) in one comprehensive document. These plans were combined because Asheville’s overall pedestrian network will be a stronger one if the three aspects – greenways, ADA accessibility, and pedestrian networks are considered and planned at the same time. The GAP Plan identifies greenway, accessibility, and pedestrian networks for our community as well as programs and policies to support the expansion of these networks.

Asheville City Council approved updates to the City’s micromobility ordinance at their regularly scheduled meeting on August 26, 2025, paving the way for expanded use of personal micromobility devices within City limits. These changes are part of a broader effort to provide safe, affordable, and accessible transportation options for all who travel in and around Asheville.
