City of Asheville offices to close July 4 in observance of Independence Day

Patriotic pinwheels, glowsticks and movies offer a safer way to celebrate Independence Day.

City of Asheville offices will be closed Thursday, July 4 in celebration of Independence Day. Some City services will be impacted. 

 

Parks and Recreation

Parks and greenways are open on a regular schedule, 6 a.m.-10 p.m.

Splasheville, the free splash fountain in Pack Square Park, is open from 9 a.m.- 8 p.m. Pools at Recreation Park and Dr. Wesley Grant Sr. Southside Community Center are open from 12 p.m. – 6 p.m.

Community center buildings and administrative offices are closed. If a community center is surrounded by or adjacent to a park, outdoor amenities such as sports courts, fields, playgrounds, and picnic shelters are open from 6 a.m.-10 p.m.

Riverside Cemetery offices are closed, though the cemetery is open until 8 p.m.

Ingles Independence Day Block Party takes place on Asheville’s South Slope (Coxe & Buxton Ave) from 12 p.m. – 10 p.m. with the Ultimate Air Dogs featured from 12 p.m. – 4 p.m., live music and food and beverage vendors starts at 4:30 p.m. Fireworks launch at 9:30 p.m.

July 4 Celebration Street Closures

To facilitate the celebration, certain streets will be closed to vehicular traffic. Specifically, portions of:

  • Coxe Ave. (from Banks Ave. to Millard Ave.)  7 a.m. – 12 a.m.
  • Buxton Ave. (from Coxe Ave. to Millard Ave.) 7 a.m. – 12 a.m.
  • Collier Ave.   7 a.m. – 12 a.m.   
  • Federal Alley (the portion surrounding Ironwood Parking Garage). 7 a.m. – 12 a.m.
  • Asheland Ave. (from Hilliard to Southside Ave.)  5 p.m. – 10 p.m.

Transit

Asheville Rides Transit (ART) will operate Sunday and  Holiday Service hours  8 a.m. – 6 p.m., on all routes on Thursday, July 4,  for Independence Day.

Sanitation

There will be no trash or recycling collection on Thursday, July 4th and Sanitation offices will be closed.

Regular Thursday trash collection will be collected on Friday, July 5.

Community & Regional Entertainment Facilities

The Harrah’s Cherokee Center – Asheville will be closed on Thursday, July 4, but will reopen Friday July 5, at 10am.  The facility will host The Big Crafty July 6 & 7, from 12pm – 6pm.

The WNC Nature Center, Aston Park Tennis Center, and Asheville Municipal Golf Course are all open for regular hours on Thursday, July 4.

 

Emergency Services

All public safety services, including police, fire, and emergency response, will operate to normal schedule – 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Water Resources staff will be available for water-related emergencies 24 hours a day over the holiday weekend.  Customers can call the customer service line at 828-251-1122 to report water-related emergencies, leaks, breaks, and no water calls.
