One of Asheville’s premiere parks offers volleyball courts, playground, roller-hockey rink, basketball court, a multi-use track, lawn bowling court, greenway access, multi-use sports field, picnic shelter, river overlooks, wetland education area, and ballfield.
Carrier Park’s playground closed on June 17 so a new one can be installed (more info here)! While the playground is under construction, families may explore nearby APR playgrounds:
- Burton Street Community Center (1.5 miles)
- West Asheville Park (1.6 miles)
- Augusta Barnett Park (2.1 miles)
- Malvern Hills Park (2.2 miles)
- Walton Street Park (3.1 miles)
Why replace the playground during summer?
As parks and recreation professionals, we know summer is the time to play – which is why we schedule these projects during cool weather months whenever possible. However, Carrier Park’s playground deteriorated to the point that elements were regularly removed to maintain safety. Rather than wait for the playground to further deteriorate, we’re working quickly to bring the community a new playground with more durable, long-lasting materials.
