The Outdoor Recreation Program offers exciting outdoor adventure and environmental education opportunities for all ages and abilities. You will find all you need to make your outdoor adventure plans for the upcoming season. Activities include summer adventure camps, hiking, mountain biking, rafting, skiing, snowboarding, backpacking, youth programs, adult programs, overnight trips and special events.

OUTDOOR PROGRAMS - SPRING, 2018

YOUTH

Kids' Fishing Fun
Saturday, April 21 from 10am to 12noon
For ages 6 to 12, accompanied by an adult

A great way to try fishing for the first time.  Fishing poles and bait provided!
Pre-registration is required.
Fee: $3/child, no fee for accompanying adult

Wrench and Ride
Tuesday, May 2 from 6 to 7:15pm
For ages 9 to 12

Bring your bike and helmet and we'll learn a few bike maintenance basics and explore the greenway. (A limited number of bikes may be available for use upon request.)
Pre-registration is required.
Fee: $5/child

Young Explorer:  Fire & Shelter Building
Saturday, May 12 from 10am to 12noon
For ages 9 to 11

Learn how to build a fire and create a shelter in this hands-on program that takes place entirely outside.  Dress appropriately and be sure to wear close-toed shoes.
Pre-registration is required.
Fee: $5/child



YOUTH & ADULT

Family Outdoor Night
2nd Thursday of Each Month
For ages 5 and up accompanied by an adult

Each month, we'll try a new activity for the whole family.  Call for info on this month's program.
Pre-registration is required and fee varies based on activity.

Disc Golf 101
Thursday, March 8 from 5:45 to 7pm
For ages 5 and up accompanied by an adult

Try your hand at disc golf!  Take some practice shots and work on technique and aim!
Fee: $2/person


Go Fish!
Thursday, April 12 from 5:45 to 7pm

Just us on a nice spring evening for a quick fishing lesson and spend some time trying to catch the big one.  Fishing poles and bat will be provided.
Fee: $2/person

Asheville Outdoor Family: Camping 101
Saturday, April 28 - Sunday April 29
For ages 5 and up accompanied by an adult

Does your family want to try camping but you don't know where to start?  We'll provide tents, dinner, breakfast and campsite activities - you provide bedding, personal items and snacks.  Youth under 18 must register with an adult.
Pre-registration is required.
Fee: $13/person


Geocaching 101
Thursday, May 10 from 5:45 to 7pm

We're searching for hidden treasures!  (And getting some exercise and fresh air at the same time.)  GPS units will be provided.  Children must be accompanied by an adult.
Fee: $2/person


ADULT

Senior Treks
For adults 50+

A low-impact hiking program offering leisurely-paced day trip hikes for adults.  Bring lunch, water, good hiking shoes and proper clothing.  You need to be in good physical condition to participate.  Please re-register for each hike individually.
Fee: $5/trip & includes transportation
