City of Asheville offices to close July 4 in observance of Independence Day

City of Asheville offices will be closed Friday, July 4 in celebration of Independence Day. Some City services will be impacted. 

Asheville Parks & Recreation:

  • Most parks and greenways are open on a regular schedule of 6 a.m.-10 p.m. Azalea, Carrier (west side), French Broad River, Recreation, and Richmond Hill parks remain closed, as does the portion of French Broad River Greenway that runs through French Broad River Park.   • All community centers and administrative offices are closed on July 4. Outdoor features such as playgrounds, picnic areas and sports courts adjacent to community center buildings are open from 6 a.m. – 10 p.m.
  • Riverside Cemetery offices are closed, though the grounds are open 7 a.m. – 8 p.m. Some areas are inaccessible due to Helene-related damage.
  • The pool at Dr. Wesley Grant Sr. Southside Community Center is closed until further notice.
  • Splasheville in Pack Square Park is open 9 a.m. – 8:30 p.m.
  • Montford Park Players’ opening night of A Midsummer Night’s Dream takes place at Hazel Robinson Amphitheater at 7:30 p.m.

Independence Day Block Party (Street Closures)

The Independence Day Block Party presented by Ingles is back on South Slope—bigger, louder, and packed with new surprises. Whether you’re chasing live music, family fun, or the perfect patio pint, you’ll find something to celebrate all day.

EVENT SNAPSHOT
• Date: Friday, July 4
• Neighborhood: South Slope, Downtown Asheville
• South Slope businesses are open all day
• Event festivities: 5 PM – 10 PM
• Fireworks: 9:30 PM

To facilitate the celebration, certain streets within Asheville’s South Slope district will be closed to vehicular traffic. 

Closed 9 a.m. – 12 a.m.

  • Coxe Ave. (from Hilliard Ave. to Millard Ave.)  
  • Banks Ave. (from Coxe Ave. to Church St.)
  • Buxton Ave. (from Coxe Ave. to Millard Ave.)
  • Federal Alley 
  • Collier Ave.  

Closed 5 p.m. – 11 p.m.
Asheland Ave. (from Hilliard to Southside Ave.)


Community & Regional Entertainment Facilities
The Harrah’s Cherokee Center – Asheville will be closed on Friday, July 4. The HCCA Box Office summer hours are Tuesday – Friday from 10 a.m. – 4 p.m. excluding City of Asheville Holidays.

  • Asheville Municipal Golf Course (back nine) will be open regular hours.
  • WNC Nature Center will be open regular hours.
  • Aston Park Tennis Center will be open regular hours.

Transit
Asheville Rides Transit (ART) will run on a Sunday schedule.

Sanitation
Trash, recycling, and brush collection will run on a normal schedule Monday – Thursday. Find your trash pick up schedule here. Sign up for free collection reminders or schedule changes and service alerts with the free AVLcollects app or at ashevillenc.gov/AVLcollects

Water
Water Resources staff will be available for water-related emergencies 24 hours a day over the holiday. Water production plants remain staffed 24-7 as is normal operational procedure. Customers can call the customer service line at 828-251-1122 to report water related emergencies, leaks, breaks and no water calls.

Emergency services
All public safety services, including police, fire and emergency response, will operate to normal schedule – 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
