Asheville City government offices will be closed on Thursday, November 27, and Friday, November 28, 2025 in observance of the Thanksgiving holiday. Here is a roundup of City service holiday schedules.
ART bus service
ART bus service will be suspended on Thursday, November 27. Thanksgiving is one of two holidays during which the City of Asheville’s ART system closes.

Sanitation schedule
Trash and recycling collection will be suspended Thursday, November 27, and the Sanitation office will be closed. Regularly scheduled Thursday trash and recycling will be collected Friday, November 28. Carts should be placed at the curb by 7 a.m. Yard waste bags and containers will be collected Monday – Wednesday and Friday.

Asheville Parks & Recreation (APR)
Most parks and greenways are open on a regular schedule of 6 a.m.-10 p.m., except:
- All areas of Azalea, French Broad River, and Recreation parks are closed
- Carrier Park’s ballfield, playground, skate rink, and courts are closed, but the picnic shelter, parking lot, wetland areas, velodrome, and the portion of French Broad River Greenway that runs through the park are open with portable toilets located near the picnic shelter
- The portion of French Broad River Greenway that runs through French Broad River Park is closed
- Some areas of Richmond Hill Park are closed and marked with signs
All community centers and administrative offices are closed on November 27 and 28. Outdoor features such as playgrounds, picnic areas and sports courts adjacent to community center buildings are open from 6 a.m.-10 p.m.
Riverside Cemetery offices are closed, but grounds are open 7 a.m.-8 p.m. Some areas are inaccessible due to Helene-related damage.
Multiple events take place on November 22 including the Asheville Holiday Parade with prime viewing areas in Pack Square and Pritchard parks from 11 a.m.-2 p.m., Burton Street Community Center’s Friendsgiving from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., and Linwood Crump Shiloh Community Center’s Community Thanksgiving Potluck from 1-4 p.m.

Community and Regional Entertainment Facilities
The iHeart Media Asheville Box Office at Harrah’s Cherokee Center – Asheville will be closed November 27 and 28 for the holiday. Following the weekend, the box office will open on Tuesday, December 2nd.
Aston Park Tennis Center will be closed on Thursday, November 27, and re-open with normal schedule on Friday. The last day of the 2025 tennis season will be Sunday, November 30. Opening day for the 2026 tennis season will be April 1.
The Asheville Municipal Golf & Disc Golf Course will be closed on Thanksgiving Day but will reopen on a normal schedule on Friday, November 28 with play reserved to the back nine holes only.
The WNC Nature Center will be closed on Thursday, November 27.
Water Resources
Staff will be on 24-hour availability for water-related emergencies over the holiday. Customers can call the customer service line at (828) 251-1122 to report water-related emergencies, leaks, breaks, or service interruptions. Water Resources 24/7 staffing of our water treatment facilities continues throughout the holiday.
Public Safety
All public safety services, including police, fire, and emergency response, will operate on a normal schedule – 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
