Planning, Economic Development and Environment Committee

General Information

The Planning, Economic Development & Environment Committee will review policy updates and make policy recommendations that ensure:

  • Provide direction on land use and transportation policies and processes that result in sustainable development and redevelopment strategies.
  • Support City Council’s long-range vision and comprehensive planning goals.
  • Promote economic development that focuses on rebuilding and revitalizing the local economy by prioritizing critical infrastructure recovery, promoting collaborative public-private partnerships, and helping businesses navigate post-disaster challenges by ensuring they have access to resources needed to recover and rebuild.
  • Advise on economic development strategies that improve the health of the local economy, enhance workforce development opportunities that promote the economic mobility of residents, and enhance Asheville’s economy and strengthen resilience through a diversified and sustainable economic base.
  • Increase outreach and support business development and expansion to ensure that both existing and start-up businesses can participate and benefit in recovery opportunities.
  • Support Municipal Climate Action Plan goals and activities to strengthen the City’s ability to mitigate, prepare for, and adapt to changing climate conditions. 
  • Support neighborhood-led resilience efforts that build community capacity to withstand future challenges.
