City of Asheville offices to close July 4 in observance of Independence Day

City of Asheville offices will be closed Tuesday, July 4 in celebration of Independence Day. Some City services will be impacted. 

Parks and Recreation

Parks and greenways are open on a regular schedule, 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Splasheville, the free splash fountain in Pack Square Park, is open from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.

Malvern Hills Park’s pool is open 12:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Admission is $3.00 per person. 

Please note: Recreation Park Pool is currently closed for repairs.

Community center buildings and administrative offices are closed. If a community center is surrounded by or adjacent to a park, outdoor amenities such as sports courts, fields, playgrounds, and picnic shelters are open from 6:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

Riverside Cemetery offices are closed, although the cemetery will be open until 8:00 p.m.

Ingles Independence Day Celebration takes place in Pack Square Park from 12:00 p.m. – 10:00 p.m. with the Ultimate Air Dogs featured from 12:00 – 4:00 p.m., live music starts at 4:30 p.m. Splasheville will remain on until 7:30 p.m. Fireworks launch at 9:30 p.m.

Transit

Asheville Rides Transit (ART) will operate Holiday Service hours (8:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.) on all routes on Tuesday, July 4, 2023, for Independence Day.

Sanitation

There will be no trash or recycling collection on Tuesday, July 4th and Sanitation offices will be closed.

All customers who receive trash or recycling collection Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday (except Central Business District) will be delayed by one day. 

  •      Tuesday will be collected on Wednesday
  •      Wednesday will be collected on Thursday
  •      Thursday will be collected on Friday

Central Business District customers and Monday customers will not be affected.

Community & Regional Entertainment Facilities

The Harrah’s Cherokee Center Asheville venue will be closed on Tuesday, July 4th, but will be open on Monday, July 3rd during regular business hours. For event information, inquiries, and related requests, please visit HarrahsCherokeeCenterAsheville.com.

The WNC Nature Center, Aston Park Tennis Center, and Asheville Municipal Golf Course are all open for regular hours on Tuesday, July 4th.

Emergency Services

All public safety services, including police, fire, and emergency response, will operate to normal schedule – 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Water Resources staff will be available for water-related emergencies 24 hours a day over the holiday weekend.  Customers can call the customer service line at 828-251-1122 to report water-related emergencies, leaks, breaks, and no water calls.

Street Closures

The following streets will be closed during July 4 celebrations:

  • Court Plaza
  • North and South Spruce Streets
  • South Market Street
  • North & South Pack Square
