The purpose of the XYZ Board is to promote the use and conservation of historic sites for the educational, cultural, economic, and general welfare of the public through the preservation, protection, and regulation of buildings, sites, monuments, structures, and areas of historic interest or importance within the City of Asheville and Buncombe County.

Membership
The XYZ Board consists of seven members appointed by the City Council for three-year terms:
- Three city residents representing different geographic areas of the city
- One representative of the performing arts
- One representative of the restaurant industry
- One representative of the industrial or construction industry
- One professional in acoustic engineering or a related field
- The Noise Control Administrator serves as a nonvoting member

Regular Meeting Schedule
The XYZ Board meets at 1:00 p.m. on the fourth Thursday of every other month, in odd-numbered months, in the First Floor Conference Room of Asheville City Hall, located at 70 Court Plaza. Meetings are open to the public. The November 27, 2025 meeting will be held on November 20, 2025, due to the holiday.
The next regular meeting of the XYZ Board will take place on Thursday, May 22, 2025 at 1:00 p.m. in the First Floor Conference Room of City Hall, located at 70 Court Plaza. All meetings are open to the public.

- In-Person Comments: Comments will be limited to 3 minutes for individuals and 10 minutes for a group’s primary spokesperson (requires three individuals to cede their time to a fourth person – all four people must be present at the meeting).
Subcommittees
The CDE Committee advises and makes recommendations to the XYZ Board on issues regarding the City of Asheville’s historic buildings. The CDE Committee meets at 2:00 p.m. on the second Monday of each month in the First Floor Conference Room of Asheville City Hall, located at 70 Court Plaza.
