Severe Weather Impacts to City of Asheville Services, Programs and Road Closures – updated January 10, 2024

Reopened Roads:

  • Caribou St at Sweeten Creek as of 1/9/24 at 5 p.m.
  • Iris Street at London Road as of 1/9/24 at 10 p.m.
  • Hominy Creek Road at Shelburne Road
  • Swannanoa River Road at Azalea Road
  • Druid Drive
  • Riverside Drive at the Railroad Trestle

City-Maintained Road Closures:

  • 68 West Chapel Road

NCDOT Maintained Road Closures

  • West Chapel Road at U.S. 25
  • Meadow Road at Victoria Road
Please note: Public Works crews are monitoring flood-prone areas 24/7 during this weather event and will implement road closures as needed. To report flooding in your area, please call Public Works at 828-259-5852 during regular business hours and the non-emergency line at 828-252-1110 after normal business hours. If you are experiencing a life-threatening emergency, please call 9-1-1.
 
 
 

 
 
Community Centers (updated 1/10 10:21 a.m.):

  • Inclement Weather Childcare with indoor activities, crafts, and get-to-know-you games available for $5 per child at Linwood Crump Shiloh Community Center beginning at 9 this morning. Each child or teen should bring their own lunch and drink, but snacks are provided.
  • Linwood Crump Shiloh Community Center will close at 6 p.m. All other community centers are open on a regular schedule.
  • Sports and athletics practices at Linwood Crump Shiloh Community Center are cancelled.
  • Parks, greenways, and facilities closed:
    • Amboy Riverfront Park
    • Azalea Dog Park
    • Carrier Park
    • French Broad River Park
    • Hominy Creek Greenway
    • Reed Creek Greenway
    • Weaver Park
    • All sports fields
 

As rough weather continues to move through the city, some Asheville Parks & Recreation operations have been affected.
 
As the situation can change throughout the day, we’ll update this post as we receive new information about closures and delays.
 
Some relief for Families:
Inclement Weather Childcare with indoor activities, crafts, and get-to-know-you games available for $5 per child at Tempie Avery Montford Community Center beginning at 10 this morning. Each child or teen should bring their own lunch and drink, but snacks are provided.
 
 
Impacted Programs:
  • All athletics and sports practices and games are cancelled.
  •  Stephens-Lee and Dr. Wesley Grant Sr. Southside community centers plan to open at noon.
     
Parks closed due to flooding:
  • Amboy Riverfront Park
  • Azalea Park including the dog park
  • Carrier Park
  • French Broad River Park including the dog park
  • Jake Rusher Park
  • Jean Webb Park
  • John B. Lewis Soccer Complex
