At the March 24 City council meeting, Council members took action and were presented on mulitple agenda items related to budget, Helene recovery, and a land hold for a proposed arts and entertainment facility.
National Recreation and Park Association (NRPA) recently conducted a monitoring site visit with Asheville Parks & Recreation (APR) and the findings highlight outstanding work being done by the local team behind the Go! Guiding Others youth mentoring program made possible by a grant from the national organization. The visit allowed NRPA to learn more about the program, assess management, and gather qualitative data on its community impact.
ULI's 9-member panel spent five days in Asheville, touring the city's hardest-hit areas, speaking with leaders from local business, neighborhood, and government organizations. Their research observations and recommendations culminate Friday, august 1 into a two-hour presentation to the community and City leaders.
On this week’s episode, host Sam Parada brings back regular guest James Shelton, Community Development Division Manager for the City's Economic & Community Development Department. James discusses updates on CDBG-DR and areas where the City is preparing to use the funds on recovery-related projects.
Hear stories of local businesses now contracting with City of Asheville partners post Tropical Storm Helene. Many of these local small business owners faced hard times in the aftermath of the storm. Working with City staff, opportunities were identified as to how these businesses could pivot to work within the Helene recovery efforts. For many, it was a lifeline in hard times - an opportunity to help their community - and for some, a chance to continue to provide employment for their staff and other community members.
