City of Asheville offices closed for Veterans Day, ART buses to run on regular schedule

In observance of Veterans Day, the City of Asheville offices will be closed Friday, November 11, 2022. Here is a look at how the City will be observing the day, and any impact to services.


Veterans Day Ceremony

UPDATE – The Veterans Day live ceremony has been cancelled due to increment weather. The ceremony will be uploaded to be viewed at 2 p.m. on the City of Asheville YouTube channel.



Asheville Rides Transit (ART) bus service will run on a normal schedule, and Veterans can ride fare free for the day.


Parks & Recreation

All APR parks will be open from 6 a.m.-10 p.m. This includes greenways, playgrounds, dog parks, outdoor sport courts and fields, river access points, and Riverside Cemetery.

All recreation and community centers will be closed Veterans Day, but outdoor amenities such as playgrounds, sports courts and fields, and picnic tables and benches will be available.


Community & Regional Entertainment Facilities

The Harrah’s Cherokee Center Asheville will be open on Friday, November 11 and is hosting the Asheville Championships and NCAA season opening tournament.  More information can be found at

The WNC Nature Center, Aston Park Tennis Center and Asheville Municipal Golf Course will be open for normal operating hours.


Emergency services

All public safety services, including police, fire and emergency response, will operate to normal schedule – 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

Water Resources staff will be available for water related emergencies 24 hours a day over the holiday .

Customers can call the customer service line at 828-251-1122 to report water related emergencies, leaks, breaks and no water calls.
