Asheville City Council to hold budget worksession, outlines budget adoption process

Posted on April 6, 2018March 13, 2019 by Web Editors - CAPE

Asheville City Council will hold a budget worksession at 3 p.m. Tuesday, April 10, prior to its 5 p.m. regular meeting. The budget worksession will be held in the First Floor North Conference Room of City Hall.

By law, the City of Asheville must pass a balanced budget by July 1. The Fiscal Year runs from July to June so the Council is currently working with City leadership, including the Finance staff, on the budget for Fiscal Year 2018-2019.

During this time of the year, City staff works with Council to hammer out expenditures vs. revenue for the new fiscal year. Those conversations happen during the budget worksessions, and Council has already had several of them. More may be scheduled, as needed, prior to adoption.

The proposed FY 2018-2019 budget will be presented to City Council during its May 15 meeting. City Council will hold a public hearing on the budget during its 5 p.m. May 22 meeting. Council is expected to adopt the budget during its June 19 meeting.

Also of note, Council is slated to adopt the proposed fee adjustments for Fiscal Year 2018-2019 during its 5 p.m. April 10 meeting. Here is the meeting agenda, which contains a link to the proposed fee adjustments documents.
