About

Richmond Hill Park is CLOSED for Storm Debris Removal Operations

Storm debris removal operations are taking place at Richmond Hill Park as part of the City of Asheville’s ongoing recovery efforts following recent severe weather events including Tropical Storm Helene. For the safety of crews and park visitors, the park remains closed during this time. DO NOT enter the park as it is an active disaster recovery site with heavy equipment and other hazards!

City staff are working with a state contractor to chip and remove large vegetative debris, such as downed tree limbs and other storm-related materials. Contractors will be on-site seven days a week. As part of this work, they will use a wood chipper and lay wood chips along the trail to help with fire prevention and water mitigation.

Once all eligible debris has been removed, the City plans to partner with local community organizations to collect and clear any remaining smaller, non-eligible debris. This two-phase approach mirrors the successful strategy used during recent waterway debris cleanups.

We appreciate your patience and cooperation as we work to restore Richmond Hill Park as a safe and welcoming space for all. If you have any questions, please contact sanitation@ashevillenc.gov.

If you are looking for alternative recreation locations, please email parks@ashevillenc.gov or consider these options:
