Metered Parking
Metered parking is found throughout Asheville’s Central Business District of Downtown Asheville. Parking meters are available for short-term parking usage, with a two-hour maximum limit. The rate for all meters is $2.50 per hour. Longer-term parking is available in parking lots and parking garages.
Payment at on-street parking meters is required between 8:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Payment is not required on Sundays or designated City Holidays. Payment for on-street meters can be made by coin, credit card, or mobile payment (Flowbird app & Text-to-Pay). If paying directly at the meter, the meters accept quarters, dimes, and nickels, or Visa, Mastercard, and Discover credit cards. Apple Pay and Google Pay are only available through the Flowbird mobile app/Text-to-Pay.
To make payment using your mobile phone, download the Flowbird app and create your account or use the Text-to-Pay option (no account setup needed) by texting the letter Z followed by the two digit zone number to: 727563. For example: to pay for a space in zone 42, text Z42 to the number 727563.
The zone number and space number can be found on the parking meter at the space you are parked in. The two digit zone number is found on the sticker attached to the back of the meter (zones are 42, 43, 44, 45, and 46), and the three digit space number can be found on a sticker near the top of the meter. Many of the meters downtown are dual-space meters that cover two parking spaces and will have two different space numbers posted (one on each side of the meter). Make sure you enter the correct space number that corresponds with the space you are parked in.
When using Flowbird be sure to enter the Zone # and Space number including any leading zeros.
ADA Accessible Parking
ADA Accessible parking is found throughout Asheville’s Central Business District of Downtown Asheville. Spaces are available for parking usage for those with a valid ADA placard or ADA license plate. Designated on-street ADA spaces are free to use, however, metered parking spaces must still be paid. Vehicles displaying a valid ADA placard or ADA license plate may park in excess of posted time-limit parking restrictions, but are not exempt from paying parking meter fees. The current on-street metered parking rate is $2.50 per hour. City-owned garages also have ADA Accessible parking spaces for longer-term parking; standard parking rates apply.
The rate for all City-owned Garages is free if less than 1 hour, otherwise it is $2.00 per hour or fraction of an hour with a $15 per day maximum.
Permit Parking
The City offers on-street permitted parking in several areas within downtown Asheville. Permitted spaces are available on a month-to-month basis and are first come, first serve. These spaces are reserved from 8am to 6pm, Monday through Saturday.
To sign up for monthly parking at your preferred on-street zone (see prices and descriptions below), please:
- Visit our monthly parking permit portal;
- Select the Sign Up option;
- Select the permit type you would like to purchase;
- Provide the requested information.
If monthly parking space is available within the location you selected, you will be emailed a confirmation to finalize your purchase. If space is not available, you will be notified via email. On-street permit parking is available on a first-come, first-serve basis; there are no waiting lists at this time.
