How to hire an officer
You can request an officer by visiting the RollKall website or calling (855) 541-1585. Note: requesting an officer does not guarantee one will be available. It is your responsibility to check the status of your request on the website.
If you are applying for a special event permit through the City of Asheville, you should coordinate with the Outdoor Special Events Office for off-duty officers.
What RollKall provides
When you use this service, you get access to an online account where you can see:

Rules and Regulations
Officers cannot work off-duty for certain jobs, including:
- Helping collect money for property (like towing cars or debt collection)
- Private eye or investigation work
- Jobs where they would use police records for a private business
- Helping lawyers prepare for a court case
- Working for political campaigns
- Any job that conflicts with the police department’s goals

Costs and Pay Rates
There is a 4-hour minimum for every request. You must ask for an officer at least 24 hours before the shift starts.
Only the standard rate is needed for non-emergency or non-holiday requests. You have the option to increase the pay rate to another level (1-3) if needed. You can increase the rate at any time by contacting RollKall.

The holiday rate applies on New Year’s Eve, New Year’s Day, Easter, Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Memorial Day, Juneteenth, Independence Day, Labor Day, Veterans Day, Thanksgiving Day, the day after Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve, and Christmas Day.
Cancellation Policy
If you cancel a scheduled shift, you will still have to pay some fees.
- If you cancel more than 48 hours in advance, you will have to pay administrative fees for the first 24 hours of the job. Admin fees depend on the coverage and can range from $6.75-$10.13 per hour.
- If you cancel or change the job within 48 hours of when it is scheduled to start, you will have to pay for the officer’s minimum hours (or hours worked) plus the administrative fees.

Cancellation Policy
Once an assignment has been approved and scheduled, vendors canceling or reducing assignments must pay the full RollKall administrative fees for the first 24 hours of the original assignment. Vendors canceling or reducing assignments within 48 hours of the start of the assignment are required to pay the greater of officer hours worked or the agency minimum hours plus RollKall administrative fees for the first 24 hours of the original assignment. (Admin fees depend on the coverage and can range from $6.75-$10.13 per hour.)
