Working smoke alarms give you the earliest warning to get out of your home and provide the best chance to survive a fire.

Did you know?

Smoke alarms should be installed in every bedroom, in a common area outside sleeping areas, and on every level of your home.

Smoke alarms should be replaced every ten years, even if they sound when tested.

The Asheville Fire Department is currently offering home safety visits for residents within the City of Asheville. If you live within city limits, you may be eligible for a visit that includes installing smoke alarms, if needed.

Please note the following:

We install only 10-year sealed-battery smoke alarms. We do not install or service hardwired (direct-wired) smoke alarms.

Homes with vaulted or extremely high ceilings may not be eligible for alarm installation in those areas due to safety and access limitations.

If you rent your home or apartment, the property owner or management company is responsible for installing and maintaining smoke alarms.
