Appliances & Scrap Metal

The City of Asheville collects appliances (aka ‘white goods’) and scrap metal. There is a fee of $5.00 per item for appliances such as stoves, ovens, refrigerators, freezers, dishwashers, washers, dryers, air conditioners, trash compactors, and hot water heaters, which is assessed on a resident’s combined utility bill. Call (828) 251-1122 or use The Asheville App to schedule scrap metal or appliance collection.

North Carolina State Law prohibits the dumping of appliances in a landfill. This law also requires that businesses who sell appliances charge an appliance disposal fee to cover the cost of the appliance. Citizens are encouraged to allow the business selling the new appliance to dispose of the old one.
