Updated with dates: City heads east and central/north for next budget information sessions

Posted on October 31, 2018October 4, 2019 by Web Editors - CAPE

Thank you to our residents who have attended the first 2 of 4 combined regional priorities and budget meetings so far! We are coming to the east and central/north parts of the City next.

These meetings are your opportunity to find out how the City’s budget works.

To increase communication around the City of Asheville’s budget process, City staff launched a series of worksessions before City Council, starting in August.

These sessions, which run through December, provide context to Council and the public about each City department’s programs, level of service, budget, staffing, partnerships and goals. The schedule for the remaining sessions as well as information about the first three can be found here.

Taking the budget to our neighborhoods

As part of City Council’s desire to discuss the budget process with the community, the City is holding four regional Asheville public meetings about the budget. City staff and City Council members will be available to answer questions and connect with community.

The first sessions happened Oct. 29 at Hall Fletcher Elementary School in West Asheville and November 3, at the Skyland Fire Department. Now, City staff are heading south for the next installment!

Your next opportunity is this Wednesday, 6:30 p.m. November 7, East Asheville Community Center, 906 Tunnel Road.

The City’s recently concluded Citizen Survey results are back and we have some idea about your regional priorities. Find the survey results at this link.

Priorities in the 28804/28805 zip codes:

  • Environmental protection and sustainability (92%)
  • Public safety including police, fire and emergency preparedness (92%)

  • Affordable housing development (76%)

City staff will be on hand to talk with YOU on the areas above and to hear other feedback from you on these topics as well as the budget and Parks & Recreation.

East and Central/North Asheville, let’s hear from you!  Just a reminder, these meetings are open to all residents as well.

Dates and locations of our remaining sessions include:

  • 6:30 p.m. November 7, East Asheville Community Center, 906 Tunnel Road (East)
  • 6-7:30 p.m. Nov. 12 at the North Asheville Community Center, 37 E. Larchmont Road (Central & North Asheville)

Child care for ages 5 and older and interpretive services will be available.

Please join us to learn about how your money is spent for this community. Find more information about the City budget process at this link.
