Wellness Wednesday – Take time for yourself

Modern-day living offers up plenty of distractions and the urge to overcommit. If the many demands on your time and energy leave you feeling that you never get a moment to yourself, you risk burning yourself out. Taking time out to relax is essential for your wellbeing, helping to combat anxiety and depression.

Prioritizing “me time” may seem selfish, but comes with plenty of benefits if you do it on a regular basis:

  • Reduce stress levels
  • Help increase productivity
  • Improve concentration
  • Boost creativity
  • Feel refreshed
  • Strengthen relationships
  • Boost self-esteem

Generic greenway photoSpending time on yourself can mean a lot of things, but carving out 15-30 minutes a day for simple breathing exercises, a short walk, or meditation can help establish a habit. You may also want to turn off your phone and bask in a few minutes of silence.

Whatever you choose to do, try to do it fully and completely. For example, if you go for a walk, try not to think about what’s on your to-do list. Just concentrate on the sights, sounds, and smells around you.
