The City of Asheville recently announced updates to its Outdoor Dining Program as applied to public space, and the application process is now open on the City’s Development Portal for 2024 permitting. Updates include the ability for businesses to apply for annual permits to utilize public on-street parking spaces as “Streeteries”, as well as improved standards and processes for the program overall to ensure accessibility, improve administration and maximize public benefit.

All businesses with existing sidewalk dining or interested in pursuing new sidewalk dining must apply for 2024 permitting through the updated process. All businesses wishing to utilize on-street parking spaces must also apply through the updated process and meet the new standards for Streeteries (which are different from the temporary parklet guidelines launched during COVID). Businesses with existing temporary parklets established during COVID that will not be pursuing a long-term streetery through the updated process and standards must remove their structures by January 2, 2024.

Information sessions will be offered to businesses to provide further guidance on the new application process and standards as applied to both sidewalks and streeteries.

Information Session Dates:

  • Monday, December 4, 2023, from 11 am – 12:30 pm (virtual)

  • Tuesday, December 12, 2023, from 2 pm – 3:30 pm (in-person)

  • Tuesday, January 9, 2024, from 2pm – 3:30 pm (virtual)

Register for an information session here.
