Nearly a year after the City of Asheville began participating in the Buncombe County Helene community briefing, Mayor Esther Manheimer,  City Manager Debra Campbell, and Water Public Information Officer (PIO) Clay Chandler each took the opportunity of the final briefing to thank staff and the community for all the hard work throughout the emergency response to and our continued recovery from Hurricane Helene.

The Mayor, who was in Raleigh attending an emergency readiness summit and meeting with the NC Director of Emergency Management, marked the moment with a pre-recorded video, thanking the community and ensuring that all the hard work on recovery will continue.

City Manager Debra Campbell thanked the community, our partners, and all those who brought aid to our city. She also provided some data related to our Helene recovery accomplishments.

Clay Chandler, Water Resources PIO, thanked his colleagues for their dedication and diligent work in restoring water to the city after the devastation Helene wrought on the city’s water system. He also shared the good news that turbidity in our North Fork reservoir has returned to pre-Helene levels.
