City of Asheville invites public to meetings about dam improvement project

Posted on August 8, 2016August 27, 2019 by Web Editors - CAPE

In an effort to prevent damage in the event of a natural disaster (flood or earthquake), the City of Asheville has identified proactive improvement measures to be taken at the North Fork Reservoir to protect and improve critical infrastructure and resources.

Join the City of Asheville Water Resources Department, area fire departments and consulting engineers to learn more about the North Fork Reservoir Spillway and Embankment Improvement Project. Staff and consultants will discuss the purpose of the project and how the City is proactively working to mitigate potential damage associated with flooding or earthquakes.

The City Water Resources Department will host a series of four public information meetings to be held August 22-25 at the following locations. The same information will be presented at each meeting.

  • August 22, 5:30 p.m. Doubletree Biltmore, 115 Hendersonville Road.
  • August 23, 6:30 p.m. John’s Episcopal Church, 290 Old Haw Creek Road.
  • August 24, 6:30 p.m. Riceville Community Center, 2251 Riceville Road.
  • August 25, 6:30 p.m. Bee Tree Fire Station’s Community Room, 510 Bee Tree Road.

We hope you can join us to learn more about this important project. For more information, visit the City’s North Fork Dam Improvement Project page. For questions, please contact Water Production/Quality Division Manager Leslie Carreiro at 828-271-6105 or email NorthForkDam@ashevillenc.gov.
