The City of Asheville is working with a new app developer to launch an updated version of the Asheville App, expected to go live the week of September 28. The primary reason for selecting a new developer is to ensure the app meets accessibility compliance standards.
Current iPhone app users will not need to delete the existing app or download a new one from the app store. This is simply an update that will take place automatically within the current application. Android users may have to redownload the Asheville App once the updated version goes live.
The update will make some changes to how the app looks as well as to some of the current functions. The app will maintain most of the same core services and submission processes residents rely on, but it will lose the ability to see other requests in your area. Additionally, as user accounts and requests are migrated to the new system, passwords will not be transferred. If you have an existing account in the Asheville App, please use the “Forgot Password” link to set a new password, or sign in using one of the available Single Sign-On (SSO) options to access the updated app.
The new functions of the updated app are as follows:
- Request History: The app will display and maintain a history of most user requests. While users will no longer be able to view all existing public tickets, they will still be able to see their own.
- Road Ownership Identification: Roads maintained by the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) will be explicitly listed as such to prevent confusion regarding road maintenance responsibility.
- Embedded Web Links: Hyperlinks within the phone version of the app will now be properly embedded to avoid long URLs.
- Enhanced Status Updates: Improved status update options will offer clearer details on request progress, particularly for work not owned by the City.
- Account Creation & Anonymous Options: Users will need an email address to create an account, but the option to submit requests anonymously will remain available.
Community members should note that any requests submitted during the transition period (September 24th-28th) may not transfer to the updated platform.
