City of Asheville announces Affordable Housing Plan Community Open Houses to garner input on Affordable Housing Plan
City of Asheville’s Affordable Housing Division will host two Community Open Houses to collect input on the 2024 Affordable Housing Plan. The City of Asheville is pleased to host Open House events Jan. 27, 2024 in which members of the public will have the opportunity to provide input on affordable housing priorities from subsidized rentals to neighborhood stabilization.

The 2023 Asheville Holiday Parade, presented by Bojangles, returns to downtown on Saturday, November 18, beginning at 11 a.m. Like any celebration, there will be impacts to traffic and parking. Get to know the parade route, and access streets to City owned parking garages so you can make the most of the day. But most importantly, come enjoy the day with your Asheville community and friends!
Asheville community centers host Green Book exhibit highlighting Black life during Jim Crow era
In November, three Asheville Parks & Recreation (APR) community centers host “Navigating Jim Crow: The Green Book and Oasis Spaces in North Carolina,” a traveling exhibit about sites important to, and personal memories about, African American travel using The Negro Motorist Green Book during the Jim Crow era of legal segregation. Published from 1936 to 1966, the book was used as both a travel guide and a tool of resistance to confront the realities of racial discrimination in the United States and beyond. The self-guided exhibit is free and open to the public at select APR community centers.
The City of Asheville announces the Homelessness Learning Series for November and December
The Homelessness Division of the City of Asheville Community and Economic Development Department invites members of the public to join them for an informative learning series focused on homelessness in our community. Individual sessions can be attended in either November and/or December. The series offers community members the opportunity to learn more about the causes, responses, and actions that surround the homelessness issue in Asheville and the region.
Get in the spirit with Asheville haunted houses, silly events, and more during Festival of Frights
Asheville Parks & Recreation (APR) brings ghoulish greetings with its annual Festival of Frights starting on October 21. The series of events includes a toddler costume party, nighttime skating, creepy climbing, and trips through a haunted castle, a greenhouse of horror, and a trail of treats.
