Fiscal year 2015-2016 also marked the beginning of Chief Tammy Hooper’s leadership at APD. She began as chief July 20, 2015.

During this past year in Asheville, Chief Hooper has led the department through the realignment of patrol districts, reorganization of the department’s structure, assignment of additional officers to the downtown patrol and implemented a host of training and development opportunities for officers and commanders. Chief Hooper has also attended a multitude of community meetings and events and made a great effort to improve citizen engagement throughout Asheville.
