APR Innovators is an Asheville Parks & Recreation series highlighting team members going above and beyond to bring huge value to community members through knowledge, connections, and insight that come from a desire to create the best city possible through the power of high-quality recreation programs and safe parks that welcome everyone.

When did you join the Asheville Parks & Recreation (APR) team?

I joined as a Program Leader in February 2023 and was soon promoted to Facility Supervisor at Dr. Wesley Grant Sr. Southside Community Center.

What inspired you to apply to join the team?

Coming from Spartanburg Parks & Recreation, I wanted to bring the same impact I had there to the people of Asheville and Asheville Parks & Recreation.

Which accomplishments are you most proud of in terms of your work with the department?

Having great feedback from kids and parents about the kids’ wrestling program I started last summer has been great. I am excited to bring it back this summer and see the impact it continues to have in the community.

For you personally, what does it mean to work for the department?

Working for APR brings a sense of pride. Knowing that you can impact someone’s everyday life just by providing different programs and opportunities for them isn’t something you get in many careers.

How have you grown professionally by working with APR?

I have grown professionally through different training opportunities available to us as a department. Also, being a part of “behind the scenes” operations of the community center and events brings a greater knowledge of how many people it takes to bring the power of recreation and parks to our city.

How would you complete this sentence: “I work for Asheville Parks & Recreation because…”

Parks and recreation is my passion – and I am blessed to be in my position.
