The City of Asheville announces today that approximately $11 million in additional federal funding has been approved by the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to support recovery efforts following the impacts of Tropical Storm Helene. These funds will be directed toward critical water system projects that will help protect the city’s watershed and strengthen long-term community resilience.

At the August 26 City Council meeting, Council members undertook consideration of several Helene Recovery agenda items as the City and community continue to move forward with recovery related projects and needs. Below is a list of the items, grouped by topic or category, actions, and impacts.
Bill Hart, Water Production Division Manager, will serve as Interim Water Resources Director following the departure of David Melton.

Our offices will be closed Thursday, June 19, but regular hours resume the next day. Water plant production staff and Emergency Services personnell operate on a normal schedule on any oberserved holiday.
The City of Asheville water Resources Department breaks ground on phase 2 of a project at the Mills River Water Treatment Plant that will bring techincal updates and greater storage capacity to the plant, and increase resiliency for our overall water system.
