To increase communication around the City of Asheville’s budget process, City staff launched a series of worksessions before City Council, starting in August.
These sessions, which run through December, provide context to Council and the public about each City department’s programs, level of service, budget, staffing, partnerships and goals. The schedule for the three remaining sessions as well as information about the first two can be found here.
Taking the budget to our neighborhoods
In addition to the worksessions, the City will hold four public meetings in different Asheville regions this month and into November. City staff and City Council members will be available to answer questions and connect with community.
These meetings will break down information on the budget process for you, our residents! They will also highlight regional priorities identified by results from a recently conducted National Citizen Survey ™.
Residents will be able to provide input on current, ongoing projects as well as well as give feedback about budget priorities and learn about ways to stay engaged in the City’s decision-making process.
Incorporating budget and finance are crucial steps toward turning ideas and initiatives into reality. As a part of the City’s overall financial plan, including capital project and bond spending, residents will be able to provide input and consult with project managers on these projects:
- State Street repaving and pedestrian/ADA enhancements
- Vermont Avenue sidewalk options
- Urban Centers rezoning project.
Affordable Housing, Sustainability, Public Safety, and Budget will have information tables to gather input and discuss budget priorities.
The first of the four meetings will take place at 6:30 p.m. Oct. 29 at Hall Fletcher Elementary School, 60 Ridgelawn Road.
The details of the other three meetings are being formed but the dates and locations are:
- November 3, 10 – 11:30 a.m., Skyland Fire Department, 9 Miller Road South (South)
- November 7, 6 – 7:30 p.m., East Asheville Community Center, 906 Tunnel Road (East)
- November 12, 6 – 7:30 p.m., North Asheville Community Center, 37 E. Larchmont Road (North and Central)
Child care for ages 5 and older and interpretive services will be available.
