Small act, big impact: Places to donate food in our community

In response to the recent lapse in SNAP benefits, the following Asheville Parks & Recreation Community Center locations are designated as food drop off sites. The food donated at these sites will be distributed to local food pantries and distribution agencies. Donations can be made anytime during operational hours.

Grove Street Community Center

M-F, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Stephens-Lee Community Center

M-Th – 9 a.m. – 9 p.m.
F – 9 a.m. – 8 p.m.
Sat. – 10 a.m. – 6 p.m.
Sun. – 1 p.m. – 6 p.m.

*Please note: City drop off locations will be closed Tuesday, November 11 in observance of Veterans Day.

Suggested items needed: 

  • Please no glass containers or expired food
  • Canned proteins (chicken, tuna)
  • Shelf-stable milk (2% or regular)
  • Low sodium soups
  • Canned entrees (chili, red beans and rice, raviolis, chicken chili, spaghetti etc.)
  • Canned fruits (in water)
  • Canned vegetables (no salt added)
  • Rice
  • Pasta and pasta dishes
  • Pasta sauce in cans 
  • Rice side dishes in a box
  • Baby formula (just add water)
  • Baby food in plastic containers
  • Low sugar cereals and oatmeal
