The City of Asheville will launch a weekly food truck event taking place every Friday starting on Friday, October 3 until Friday, December 19. The series will feature a rotating selection of 1-2 local food trucks in Pack Square Park every Friday from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

The Food Truck Friday initiative is intended to encourage foot traffic while supporting local vendors and aligning with discussions of the Planning, Economic Development and Environment (PEDE) Committee of City Council to explore downtown activation strategies this fall.

A QR code will be available at the trucks, which will direct the public to a short questionnaire so the City can receive feedback on their experience with this location and the food trucks. The feedback will be used to make decisions on the continuation and possible expansion of this event in the future.

Additional downtown activation initiatives up for City Council consideration on 10/14 include the establishment of an event-based social district pilot program in the South Slope area of downtown, and a temporary adjustment to the noise ordinance to accommodate additional events. An Event Support Mini-Grant pilot was also recently launched by the City of Asheville and ArtsAVL that funds costs associated with downtown street festivals and other events. This rolling mini-grant program is a new addition to the already established Event Support Grant managed by ArtsAVL.

This program is supported by the The Asheville Business Inclusion (ABI) office, which offers support for small, minority, and women-owned enterprises. If you own a food truck and wish to participate, or simply wish to learn more about the ABI office, don’t hesitate to get in touch with the ABI staff. The contact information is found here.
