How trespass letters work

A trespass letter lets the Asheville Police Department charge someone with trespassing for you. This is true even if you are not there at the time or if someone else calls the police to report the person. Before someone can be charged, one of these two things must happen first:

  • A person in charge of the property must ask the person to leave.
  • OR there must be a “No trespassing” sign posted where people can reasonably see it.

How to file a no trespass letter with the police department

If you live in Asheville, you can use an online form to sign a trespass letter electronically. The police department will keep this letter on file. Click here to submit a trespass letter.
