Firefighter Trainee Applicant Hiring Schedule

 

Thank you for your interest in our hiring process for Firefighter Trainee. The Asheville Fire Department’s hiring process is as follows, 2020 dates tentative and subject to change:

 

  • AFD Physical Ability Testing is held at 20 Canoe Lane, Asheville 28804 (MAP) – Emails will be sent to applicants to schedule dates.
  • Written Human Relations and Comprehensive Exams
  • Panel Interviews
  • Chief Interviews
  • AFD Fire Academy – start date is November 2020

Candidate must meet NFPA 1582 standard to be hired.

All new hires will be required to complete AFD’s Fire Academy regardless of prior experience or certifications.

Basic Employment Requirements

 

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 18 years or older Valid Drivers License
  • Excellent physical condition
  • Successful completion of all testing components
  • Successful completion of a thorough background check
  • Successful completion of drug and alcohol screening
