What’s Up AVL!
The City of Asheville’s bi-monthly radio show allows the community to take a deep dive with the City of Asheville staff and departments.
You can learn about different departments and what projects are taking place in your community.
On this week’s episode, host Sam Parada speaks with special guests from the City’s Planning & Urban Design Department, Dana Frankel, Downtown Projects Manager, and Karli Stephenson, Urban Designer & Public Art Manager, about the City’s Temporary Activation Program (TAP).
This program streamlines the authorization of quick-action, community-led recovery initiatives on public properties impacted by Tropical Storm Helene. TAP also opens up new partnership opportunities that support short—and medium-term recovery needs related to economic development and natural resource management.
Example initiatives coordinated through TAP include:
- community clean-up activities
- commercial district activation
- temporary wayfinding and signage
- public art and beautification initiatives
- invasive species management
- temporary erosion control.
