What’s Up AVL!

The City of Asheville’s bi-monthly radio show allows the community to take a deep dive with the City of Asheville staff and departments.

You can learn about different departments and what projects are taking place in your community.

On this week’s episode, host Sam Parada is joined by Marcus Kirkman, Manager of Business Inclusion who talks about opportunities to contract with the City.   As some recent examples, Marcus shares stories of local businesses now contracting with City of Asheville partners post Tropical Storm Helene. Many of these local small business owners faced hard times in the aftermath of the storm. Working with City staff, opportunities were identified as to how these businesses could pivot to work within the Helene recovery efforts. For many, it was a lifeline in hard times – an opportunity to help their community – and for some, a chance to provide employment for their staff and other community members.
