The City of Asheville invites the public to an Open House to view the design for the Coxe Avenue Streetscape Project on Monday, March 24, 2025, 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. at Bear’s Smokehouse Barbeque.

This project aims to make improvements to Coxe Avenue that will enhance safety and the overall experience for users including pedestrians, bicyclists, and motorists. Currently, at just under halfway through the design phase, the project team is seeking community input on public amenities and loading zone needs, aiming to strike an appropriate balance between project goals and potential property impacts.

Attendees will be able to see how community input, primarily provided during the South Slope Vision Plan process, is integrated into the current design.

Join us at our Open House:
  • When: Monday, March 24, 2025, 5 p.m. – 7 p.m.
  • Where: Bear’s Smokehouse Barbeque at 135 Coxe Avenue

Project Improvements include:

  • High-visibility crosswalks
  • Trees and ground cover
  • Pedestrian lighting
  • Water main replacement
  • Upgraded stormwater infrastructure
  • Continuous sidewalk
  • Dedicated bike lane
  • Elevated roadway section (Banks Ave to Buxton Ave)

The project team will be available to answer questions and gather feedback. Can’t make it to the Open House? We’d still like to keep you involved – please fill out this short survey.

Design is anticipated to wrap up in late 2025, and construction on the Coxe Avenue Streetscape is scheduled to begin in 2026.

Project updates will be provided regularly via email to subscribers on the project page.

A note on capital projects and City priorities related to storm recovery:

The City continues to advance its Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) and Bond projects alongside Helene recovery needs. The integration of these initiatives ensures a coordinated effort to strengthen Asheville’s infrastructure and economic stability.
