The City of Asheville invites the public to attend a free, public presentation on the Asheville Region Housing Needs Assessment, presented by researcher Patrick Bowen of Bowen National Research. Patrick’s presentation will be followed by a panel for discussion and questions regarding the region’s housing needs.

Date: Tuesday, August 26, 2025
Time: 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
Location: Thomas Auditorium, Blue Ridge Community College, Flat Rock, NC

This presentation will provide a comprehensive overview of current and projected housing needs across the Asheville region. The primary geographic scope of this study is the four-county region that surrounds the city of Asheville. The region, which includes the counties of Buncombe, Henderson, Madison, and Transylvania, encompasses a total of approximately 1,857 square miles. This study presents and analyzes the overall region, each individual county and the city of Asheville.

Conducted by Bowen National Research, the study examines local real estate trends, housing supply and demand, affordability, and other key data influencing housing policy and development. You can find the 2025 report on the City Website.

This report is an update of the comprehensive Housing Needs Assessment of the Asheville region that was completed in March of 2020. Additional analysis was conducted exclusively on Asheville, the region’s largest city. With changing demographic and employment characteristics and trends expected over the years ahead, it is important for the local government, economic development representatives, real estate professionals, developers, investors, stakeholders and its citizens to understand the current market conditions and projected changes that are anticipated to occur that will influence future housing needs.

The Housing Needs Assessment allows government officials, area stakeholders, and other interested parties to better understand the region’s evolving housing market, and establish housing priorities by modifying, expanding, or introducing local government housing policies.

Bowen National Research is a nationally recognized real estate market analysis firm serving communities across the United States, Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, and Guam. The firm specializes in a range of services, from site-specific feasibility studies to regional housing needs assessments.
