As Helene recovery continues to unfold, strengthening our ability to withstand and bounce back from future disruptions, our community continues to reflect on the ways that we came together as neighbors. As part of the reflection, city staff spent time interviewing community members to understand what happened in the aftermath of Helene and how people responded. These case study videos capture snapshots of those interviews from 8 Asheville neighborhoods.
In the compilation video and short neighborhood clips, individuals reflect on the days and weeks after the storm, the strength and importance of relationships in building resilience and response, and share lasting lessons that we hope will continue to bring neighbors together. This series of videos is part of the City of Asheville’s Elevate AVL initiative that supports neighborhood-led community resilience building with the understanding that together we thrive.
