The City of Asheville has completed debris removal at Riverside Cemetery as part of ongoing restoration efforts following Tropical Storm Helene.

We are grateful for the community’s patience and understanding during this final phase of debris removal, which began on July 22 and involved careful removal to protect gravesites and ensure safety.

With debris removal complete, Riverside Cemetery will return to its regular hours of 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., seven days a week beginning today, Monday, August 18. City staff will continue to assess the grounds and proceed with additional restoration activities as needed including planting grass where there were rootball disturbances.

Additional recovery efforts at Riverside Cemetery

Asheville Parks & Recreation APR has selected an engineering firm to conduct damage assessment, cost estimation, engineering design, and oversee construction of repairs for two historic parks: Riverside Cemetery and Montford (Tennis) Park. This includes: road repairs, stormwater repairs, fence and entry gate repairs, and retaining walls. The initial assessment is scheduled to begin the first week of September.

Timely updates will be shared through the Riverside Cemetery Recovery project page as work progresses. Community members may also sign up for updates on the project page.
