The 9th annual Carolina Brotherhood ride picks back up after a year off due to COVID and is set to take off from Asheville on June 14 and finish on June 18 covering 650 miles. The six-day ride to include 8 riders from AFD and APD will cover 130 miles on the first day paying respect to two local firefighters who lost their lives in the line of duty; AFD’s Engineer Will Willis who died on February 27, 2018 and Reynolds Fire Chief Richard Sales who died on April 18, 2018. The first day will also honor the legacies of Roaring River Firefighter Bobby Shew, Dallas Corporal Travis Wells, and York County Detective Michael Doty.
The Carolina Brotherhood Ride is an annual cycling event made up of firefighters, police officers, and emergency medical personnel from the Carolinas (both North and South Carolina). They ride in the name of our fallen brothers and sisters from the Carolinas. The riders build awareness and appreciation of the sacrifice these extraordinary individuals have made, and seek to honor their memory.

The first stop of the ride is projected to arrive at 0700 on June 14 at AFD fire station 6 which is located at 970 Haywood Rd. This is the fire station Engineer Will Willis last served. AFD firefighters, emergency personnel, the public, and the media are encouraged to attend to show support.
