New traffic pattern begins Asheville’s Grove Arcade

Page Avenue in downtown Asheville

The wrecking ball took down the old Kosta’s Menswear building on Page Avenue mid-September. Grading will follow demolition to make way for construction of a 12-story hotel on the northeast corner of Battery Park and Page Avenues.

The sidewalk adjacent to Page Avenue is already closed. And traffic impacts will be felt in the coming week when two streets surrounding the Grove Arcade are changed from two-way traffic to one-way traffic. They will remain that way for a year. Here are the changes:

Page Avenue will become one-way southbound from Battle Square to Battery Park Avenue.
Battery Park Avenue will become one-way westbound from Page Avenue to O. Henry Avenue.

These changes begin Oct. 5 and are slated to run through Oct. 1, 2016.

A protected sidewalk will be installed adjacent to the construction site along Battery Park Avenue.

Tony Fraga, president and founder of FIRC Group Inc., is the developer behind the 136-room hotel to be built directly across from the Grove Arcade.
