Posted on January 15, 2025January 19, 2025 by Kim Miller

Martin Luther King Jr. Day is a federal holiday in the United States, celebrated every year on the third Monday of January to honor the life and legacy of civil rights leader Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. It’s a day that celebrates the life and legacy of a man who brought hope and healing to America.

Asheville is a vibrant and diverse community with a rich activism and social justice history. We can come together in many ways to celebrate and honor his legacy.

You can attend Martin Luther King Jr. Day events organized by The Martin Luther King, Jr. Association of Asheville ,  those events are taking place January 18-20.

Saturday, Jan. 18 – Prayer Breakfast 8:30 a.m.  @ the Crowne Plaza / 1 Resort Dr.

Sunday, January 19 – Candlelight ceremony – 5:30 p.m. @ Trinity Episcopal Church / 60 Church Street

Monday, January 20 – Peace March & Rally – 11:30 a.m. @ St James A.M.E. / 44 Hildebrand St (march to Pack Square) /  1:00 p.m. Rally @ Pack Square

UPDATE: Peach March has been canceled.

As we celebrate Martin Luther King Jr. day, let’s remember the powerful message of racial equality and justice that he left for us and strive to positively impact our communities.
