Looking for a fun and sustainable way to outfit the trick-or-treaters in your life (and yes, that includes grown-ups, too)?

Come donate, shop (for free!) and/or volunteer at the family-friendly Costume Swap and Creative Reuse Workshop, Noon – 4 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 17, at Stephens-Lee Community Center.

The event – a partnership between the City, Buncombe County and ReMix It AVL, is a great way to turn a past costume favorite into this year’s new look. No donation is required to shop for free!

How to Donate
We’re looking for clean and gently used costumes of all sizes. Hats, masks, and trick-or-treat bags and bins are also accepted, but please do not donate wigs.

You can drop your donations off from now through Oct. 15 during normal hours of operation at:

  • Lake Julian Park
  • West Asheville Library
  • Pack Memorial Library
  • Asheville City Hall and Public Works Building

Though donations at the above locations will end at close of business on Oct. 15, donations will also be accepted at Stephens-Lee Community Center on Friday, Oct. 16th, from 12-4 p.m., and on Saturday, Oct. 17 during the event.

How to Help
We’re also seeking volunteers to help with donation intake and sorting, event set-up, event clean-up, and everything else in between. Volunteer slots are available on Friday, Oct. 16 and Saturday, Oct. 17. Get more details and sign up on this form. Note: non-City employees will need to sign a volunteer liability waiver at the event.
